Lewis recently received approval at the beginning of the semester from the National Communication Association (NCA) in Washington D.C., to have a club in accordance with their organization.
The mission statement of the NCA is to promote the study, teaching and application of the principles of communication through educational and social functions that are relevant to the membership; connect students from all communication majors and minors; advance the academic and professional development of members; provide an outlet for members to explore the communication field in both professional and scholarly aspects; support the mission and purpose of Lewis University and practice the highest ethical standards while carrying out the organization's mission.
The NCA has had several meetings and activities in their first semester of existence. Smret Smith of Career Services, who was a Communication studies major at Lewis, spoke to the group twice earlier in the semester. She gave NCA members advice on seeking out internships and creating their resumes.
Most recently, the NCA had a fun night of bowling at Brunswick Zone, and had their last meeting of the semester on Wednesday, April 22nd.
Any student who is majoring or minoring in a Communication field can join the NCA. Students with questions or looking to join can contact the group's advisor Lisa O'Toole atOtooleli@lewisu.edu.
