Candidates have also been reaching out to both traditional and non-traditional outlets to garner support among young voters. MTV debates and forums (famous for the 1992 question "boxers or briefs" to then-candidate Bill Clinton) aired earlier in the year. The CNN-Youtube debates allowed viewers to generate and submit their own questions for the candidates via Youtube.
Facebook, too, has become a battleground in appealing to youth voters. Both candidates have their own profile page filled with sloganspictures, and posts from adoring (or not so adoring) students. Collectively, over two million students on Facebook support the two major candidates.
Registration drives are of course not limited to the candidates. The week of September 8 saw representatives from the Service Employee International Union on campus to register students in and around Charlie's Place, the College of Business, the Flyer's Den and the Courtyard Café.
Students across Lewis' campus seem to support growing trends of youth voter registration. Virtually every student polled confirmed these growing trends: They are registered, and they cannot wait to vote.
Michelle Annarino, an undeclared freshman, is both registered to vote and plans to vote in this upcoming election. Adam Palmasani, senior Psychology major, is registered and looking forward to vote.
The Lewis community is getting involved as well. Sorority Delta Sigma Theta and Lewis' Student Governing Board is holding a voter registration drive on Tuesday, September 30 from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. Jesse White and the Jesse White Tumbling Team will be on the University Green in the afternoon.
