In a world that is becoming more and more competitive
everyday it can be tough to get where you want to be.
In the world of media this couldn't be more true. With so
many people qualified, and such a lack of jobs, only
those that are truly dedicated come to the forefront.
One man that has put in the time and dedication is
ABC 7's sports anchor and reporter Jim Rose. Rose is a
prime example of what dedication can do in furthering
one's career.
Growing up Jim always enjoyed sports. He played them
all, but wasn't really that skilled in any one
particular, so he took an alternative route. Still
passionate and wanting to be involved he set his mind
on broadcasting.
Rose, with still some uncertainly about his future,
enlisted in the United States Army out of high school.
It was in the service that Rose put it all-together.
It became the launching pad to what has become a very
successful career.
"I was an average high school student, it was when I
got to the military that the light went on," said
Rose.
Once enlisted Rose opted to participate in a
broadcasting program that gave soldiers an opportunity
to learn, as well as serve. Rose maximized this chance,
and was at the top of his class. In doing so Rose was
rewarded by the Army with choosing where he would be
stationed over the next couple of years.
With a deep passion for broadcasting Rose wanted to
continue to learn. When choosing where he would serve
he put heavy emphasis on having the ability to still
in some facet work in broadcasting. This place turned
out to be Berlin, West Germany.
Berlin as it turns out was the best the Army had to
offer when it came to broadcasting. When he arrived
there wasn't much to report with all the cutbacks in
athletic programs, but Rose soon changed all that.
With soldiers having so much down time they began
