Obama calls for global nuclear disarmament

Speech comes just hours after N. Korea tests potential nuclear missile delivery system

In a speech given just a few hours after a North Korean missile launch that was widely seen as a test for a nuclear warhead delivery system, President Barack Obama called for a reduction and eventual elimination of nuclear arms on a global level. “I state clearly and with conviction America's commitment to seek the peace and security of a world without nuclear weapons,” declared the President in a speech given in Prague of the Czech Republic.

Lewis University's Birthday Bash Canceled

Recent incident at North Hall cited as cause.

In an e-mail sent to the Lewis student body at 1:56 p.m. Tuesday afternoon, Vice President for Student Affairs Joseph Falese announced that Lewis University's 77th Birthday Bash will not be held. The event was originally scheduled for Wednesday, April 22. The full text of the e-mail: "In light of the April 16 incident in North Hall, the University Birthday Bash scheduled for April 22, will not be held.

Let's talk about sex and the soul

One student spoke up against the hook up culture of college students. Other students agreed. Dr. Donna Freitas's research began. Assistant Professor of religion at Boston University, Freitas, came to Lewis University on March 19 to discuss her book, "Sex and the Soul: Juggling Sexuality, Spirituality, Romance and Religion on America's College Campuses" as the annual Signum Fidei lecture.

Freitas values spirituality

Dr. Donna Freitas started her lecture by stating, that though her and her father are extremely close and talk everyday, they have never discussed the fact that she has a book out titled, "Sex and the Soul." Comments like these which she scattered throughout her presentations, seemed to loosen the mood in the room, as most students would only except any lecture about sex to be condemning or fear-inducing, rather than open-minded or realistic.

The Sears Tower is getting its name changed, and it's something Mr. Drummond wouldn't even approve of. It was announced in mid-March that London-based insurance broker Willis Group Holdings had purchased the naming rights to the building, thus invoking outrage among Chicagoans.

Head Athletic Trainer, Liz D'Elia, was the first to donate her locks to Pantene's Beautiful Lengths charity as part of the kick-off event to Women's Studies Week, titled "Whack Job." Participants were required to donate an eight inch or longer ponytail that will be used to make wigs for women and children who are struggling with cancer.

Mock trial is back again

The Lewis University mock trial teams hung around at regionals for ninth and tenth place finishes and just missed nationals by one point. After the first round of the mock trial regional's on March 14-15, one Lewis team was in a good position while the other was farther back but still in decent shape for the final round.
