Plans have begun to renovate student residence Sheil Hall, converting it into an academic/office building for faculty. The new Sheil Hall will be home to the College of Arts and Sciences, holding 60 to 80 offices for faculty, including a dean's suite.
In October 2006, as a result of Amnesty International beginning to debate their stance on abortion, Lewis University made a decision to abandon their relationship with Amnesty and replace it with STAND, a group of their own creation. STAND is an organization much like Amnesty, fostered to advocate social justice.
On the night of Tuesday, February 6, a beloved member of the Lewis family passed away. Michelle Ryan, the Bursar at Lewis since 2001 and Lewis alumna was well known on campus for her dedication to students, her commitment to her work and to her friendships with many within the Lewis community.

In the years following the September 11th attacks, the government has detained nearly 500 prisoners since the first detainees arrived there on January 11, 2002. The detainee camp is no stranger to controversy over the treatment of its residents. Since its inception, the prison camp has been called upon time and time again by groups ranging from Amnesty International (May 2005), to the United Nations (February 2006), and even the European Union (May 2006).
On the weekend of February 17-18 Lewis University hosted the American Mock Trial Association (AMTA) Regional Mock Trial Competition at The Will County Courthouse in Downtown Joliet. Lewis' Mock Trial Team won a bid to the national competition after a fifth-place tie in this weekend's competition.

The Sancta Alberta Chapel has been under construction since late August when workers cut down trees and took down a garage that was being used as office space. Soon, however, the construction fence will soon come down as the final project is expected to be finished sometime in April.

Many ask why, and the answer lies within our generation. Freedom and equality are two ideals that most Americans live by, but it hasn't been until recently that people started making changes to turn these ideals into a reality.
Do you think magic and mind reading are not possible? You should have seen the performance of a master of illusion, mentalism and magic, Brian Imbus. His show entitled "Miracles of the Mind," took place last Sunday night in the Student Union. His performance filled with magic, illusion and mentalism was a miraculous entertainment for the Lewis University students and guests.
