America is facing a big change. We have gone in a new direction and elected a president that goes against the norm. That candidate won through strong campaigning and knowing what the American people wanted. Now he has to stand and deliver. Here's a look back at how he won and how he must meet the needs of the people who elected him.

Finding humor in everyday life

"Why so serious?" said Heath Ledger as the Joker in "The Dark Knight." Yeah, I know. If I hear one more Joker impression I'm going to make a pencil disappear into my eye socket. But I think this quote really works with what I want to say here.

A couple weeks ago News Editor Brian Bultema's column addressed why we need to lighten up in our daily routines, and Editor in Chief Nathyn Gibson told us last week about his hunger to stick out in the crowd.

I heart white America

On the night of the election, I was at the home of a conservative. I was watching the Comedy Central Colbert-Stewart special when the announcement was made: "Barack Obama is the President-Elect." I wanted to scream and rejoice, but I didn't want to offend my friend's mother, so I yelped into a pillow.

The student door monitors and security are asking that everyone, who is not handicapped or does not have a large bundle, to refrain from using the handicapped entrance to the lobby of the Auditorium (AUD) building.

A growing problem that constantly arises in the lobby of the Auditorium building is that able-bodied persons use, or attempt to use, the handicapped door located on the Michigan Avenue side of the AUD building.

In 1975, after a stunning loss in the 1974 midterm elections Ronald Reagan stated about the future of the Republican Party, "Our people look for a cause to believe in. Is it a third party we need, or is it a new and revitalized second party, raising a banner of no pale pastels, but bold colors which make it unmistakably clear where we stand on all of the issues troubling the people?"

Twenty-three years later, the same situation arises in the Republican Party about where the party should go after a defeat that has seen the party lose the White House.

Why are racists becoming more vocal and what does that mean for the post-Obama era?

The issue of race has always preoccupied Americans, one way or another. In every piece of history written from the colonial days until today, Americans have been faced with a great dilemma: on one hand stands a deeply-rooted desire to maintain the American Dream, keep Democracy alive and support ideals and ethics like the value of family, life, right to work and equal opportunity.

Chronicles of an attention whore

PUC Chronicle, Purdue University Calumet, IN

We're in your communities. We're in your classes. We're even in your family. We are attention whores, and we are desperately hoping that you will notice us.

For those who don't know what an attention whore is, picture a two to six-year-old with his mother as she is talking to another adult.

Our broken course evaluation system

PUC Chronicle, Purdue University Calumet, IN

It's a fact.

The course evaluation system at PUC has crumbled over the past few years with the advent of e-courses and PCStar. Some professors still administer the traditional eight-question, "cafeteria-style" evaluation in class, others tell students to go online at PCStar and still others use Blackboard.
